I guess they DO look like sneakers

Not a single pair of Vans in my collection, but these caught my eye. Too bad being in college and being broke go hand-in-hand...

Brain Fart

I saw this video in the caf on Friday and I've been having trouble getting it out of my head. Downside, I couldn't remember the name of the song or the band, so finding it was more than difficult, as you could imagine. I think it's kinda sick though.

Fashion - Solo Impala

*I hope this video isn't really old. I always feel like a nerd when I get excited over old stuff like it's new. F it. It's new to me!
**Along with seeing this video for the first time, I also got a fish bone stuck in my throat that day in the caf. Try to avoid doing that. IT SUCKS!

"I'm an addict for sneakers..."

In a nut shell: I love females. I love sneakers. I especially love females who love sneakers. So here's a mini tribute to some of the ladies I know who share a common interest with yours truly.

*Sorry if you don't like your pics, Des. I didn't have a lot of options. I think they're cute, though.

Philly Mini Sneaker Summit

My man VJ's at it again. You're probably not gonna want to miss this one. I'll definitely be in there taking pics.

The Day After The 13th and Before The 15th

So it was recently brought to my attention that this Thursday is Valentine's Day (hooray). First off, I just want to say that it's hilarious to me that I totally forgot. Primarily because last year, V-Day was life. Not really, of course, but it was a pretty big deal. I had to explain to my ex-boo in a recent phone conversation that when you're in a relationship, it's only right to go above and beyond expectations for your significant other. But if you're not, then what's the fuss about? DON'T FALL INTO THE TRAP PEOPLE!!! I'm just kidding. I believe that people should do any and everything that makes them happy, as long as it's not harming anyone. Stamp.

In the spirit of V-Day, I decided that I want to share with you the couples that I dig and already know that I'll be like one day. Wow! I just realized that all of my couple's get/got it poppin' in the bedroom. What does that say about me? That's why I need a female who's on the same page... I'M JUST KIDDING! Calm down.

Will and Jada
They have an agreement that they can sleep with other people as long as permission is asked first... bet.

Nas and Kelis
Its a stretch for most married couples to have an extra bedroom for knockin' boots. They have an extra house! I love it.

And last but most certainly not least. The couple I hope to be like more than any...
Heathcliff and Clair Huxtable
Professionals, good parents, funny, and some straight freaks. Mrs. Huxtable was bad, too.

*Shout out to whoever wrote the lyrics to this song in my honesty box. This is one of those classics that you never realized you knew all the words to. Whoever you are, hope you have a good Valentine's Day.

Stop Me If You Think That You've Heard This One Before

I used to be obsessed with this song. I guess I kind of still am. The video is packed with creativity, too. Long live Mark Ronson!

"Nothing's changed, I still love you. Oh, I still love you... Only slightly, only slightly less than I used to."

Sole Searching

Beauty Is Her Name

I don't do the whole "celebrity gossip" thing. You guys already know that about me. Not only can I care less most of the time, but I just find it easier to leave that to sarcastic journalism majors.... like Whitney. Nonetheless, I saw this picture of Stacey Dash while a friend of mine was on Bossip.com and I was blown away by how gorgeous she still is. Not to put her on blast or anything but SHE'S F'in 42!!! If I ever met her I'd call her "ma'am"!!!

Pop Up Video

This week's Pop Up Video is dedicated to that blogger who stood me up... again. You know who you are. JERK.

Hey Mama

Dear Ma,

Its my life. But everything I do, I do for you. Everything I say, you know its the truth. I'll take all the pressure off of you. I'll take, the pressure of off you.

Hi readers. Unfortunately, I don't have anything new and interesting to write about today. Well, not yet atleast. However, while writing a speech for my class tomorrow, I heard a song that got some serious wheels turning in my mind. I feel it's my duty to warn you though, that today's topic of discussion is out of the ordinary for me, and I'm sorry about that. But my ultimate goal in the publishing of my blog, is to share the things that happen to me in this crazy, unpredictable world, as soon as they occur. Now that I'm done beating around the bush, today I want to talk about love (gross!).

Now I'd never lie to you and say that I'm a deep or profound person. I don't try to shake up the world with the things that I say, and I have no expectations of influencing anyone. With the exception of two, maybe three people, I still believe that you've ended up on my blogspot merely by accident, and that nothing but curiosity has caused you to continue reading. Anyway, I'm glad you're here and I hope you like what you see.

Over this past winter break I had a surprisingly good conversation about love. What I learned learned is that love is supposed to be natural. If you have to force yoursef to love someone, something isn't right. I personally believe that when you love someone, it shows in the the things you do on a normal basis; not the extra s**t you force yourself to do because you think you're supposed to.

Also, I was convinced that when you're in love, you don't ask the other person to change anything about them. Not because you don't want to be rude, but rather because they're already perfect in your eyes. And in return, you find yourself wanting to be a better person, in hopes that you can one day give to them what they give to you, not even realizing that the feelings on the other end are mutual. It's trippy.

Which brings me to my point. I heard "Loving Me 4 Me" by Christina Aguilera and it reminded me of this conversation for different reasons. I don't know if she wrote these lyrics but its deep. I appreciated the instruments before I appreciated the lyrics, but both are pretty intense. It looks long but every word matters. I suggest listening to the song while or after you read the lyrics. Enjoy.

Christina Aguilera - Loving Me 4 Me

People ask if I'm in love with you
Because I'm sitting here with your picture
And smiling to myself
I'm kinda lost in my own thoughts of you
My heart speaks before my mind thinks through
And I blush as I say yes

What a feeling of vulnerability coming over me
And I'm feeling weak and I can't speak
I can't think
Never thought I'd give in so willingly to a human being
With abilites to set me free
Let me be me
Makes me wanna say

Your lips, your eyes, your smile, your kiss
I must admit it's a part of me
You please me, complete me, filling me
Like a melody
Your soul, your flow, your youth
Your truth is simply proof
We were meant to be
But the best quality that's hooking me
Is that you're loving me 4 me

Now people ask why I'm in love with you
Well let me start by sayin you got my heart
By just being who you are
And what we got is between me and you
Doesn't matter about the money I make or what I do
Or that I'm a star

Unconditionally you're there for me
Undeniably you inspire me, spiritually
So sweet
This is meaningful, it's incredible
Pleasurable, unforgettable
The way I feel (I feel)
So surreal
Makes me wanna say

**Chorus**

It's so amazing how something so sweet
Has come and rearranged my life
I've been kissed by destiny
Oh heaven came and saved me
An angel was placed at my feet
This isn't ordinary
(She's) loving me 4 me

The Chills Are Natural

Those of you who have seen Dave Chappelle's Block Party remember this performance. This, too, is one of the many reasons why I love music. I don't know how else to describe what it does to me. Anyway, watch this whole video. Just do it.

Chester French

I figured it was only a matter of time before Don put me on to another dope artist/group that no one has heard of. D.A. Wallach and Maxwell Drummey, both Harvard graduates, have an interesting sound that I can only describe as "catchy".

"The two first met in their freshman year dining hall at Harvard. Along with three friends they formed the first incarnation of Chester French and the quintet quickly cut its teeth playing shows around campus and at Boston bars. At the end of the year, they won a local battle of the bands and, with only two days and $300 to spend, cut a five song EP aptly titled Chester French's First Love." - MySpace

For all you fellow Entourage lovers out there (life without HBO sucks), think back to when they finally first started filming Medellin back in like June. Well at the end of the show, they played Chester French's song "She Loves Everybody", which happens to be my favorite song that I've heard from them so far.

When Pharrell came across their demo last spring, he immediately signed them, saying that he felt like he "stumbled across two geniuses"........ Pardon my speechlessness but do you know what that means coming from Pharrell? That's like being knighted. Their album is titled Love The Future and is expected to drop sometime in 2008.

Sidenotes:
*The first time I heard them, I thought they were The Beatles.
**They have their degrees in social anthropology and African-American Studies.
***For some reason they remind me of Destiny.
Hi Des!

If James Bond Blew Trees...

...He'd probably use this product.  I saw this in YRB Magazine.  Thought it was pretty cool.  I mean, if you're into that sort of thing.

Just Might Be OK

So let me tell you about my yesterday:

I woke up around 10 AM feeling unusually angry and I wasn't 100% sure why. That only lasted for about ten seconds though, because I realized that Lupe was coming to town, and that life's good...

Let me give you some background on information on my whole "Lupe concert" situation. I've known about it and the fact that tickets were online for $28 for at least two months. But due to unpaid parking tickets that demanded immediate attention, and a birth defect I have called procrastination, I was unable to purchase a ticket before the show was sold out. Though a little disappointed about that, it wasn't too bad because the official afterparty (which Lupe and his crew would be attending) was going to be at my big brother Don's store, Pedestrian.

...Still with me? Ok, so I'm feeling kinda good about life now. So I proceeded to carry on with my usual morning routine: turned some music on, sat on the edge of my bed and wondered how the hell my room got so messy and how long I could go without cleaning it, layed back down, got up again, then went to my laptop to do my morning blog reading (check out my "Respected Blogs" section; I go to each of them every morning).

As I'm reading through people's blogs, I get a call from Mr. Donovan himself. Apparently, a friend of his thought that they may not be able to make it to the concert and would have to give up their ticket. Insert excitement 'HERE'.To make a long story short, they didn't physically have a ticket. Their name was on the guest list and they had to show id to get in.

So that was a blower, but life goes on. Later in the day, I'd say around 3PM, I'm chilling with Don and he tells me that the afterparty at Pedestrian has been cancelled. I'm not going to go into details why, but let me just say I'm not the only one plagued with procrastination. But now I'm extra upset because not only am I not going to be able to see Lupe at all, I started getting sick.

Anyway, I go to class, get out around 8PM, and VJ is blowin' me up talking about come pick him up from his house. I'm feeling under the weather and more than let down so I would've been just fine with going to sleep, but VJ was hell-bent on going to South St., where all the people who were going to see Lupe were, while we stood outside... and watched them go in? I still don't understand the logic behind that one, but I'm happy that we did.

We get to South St. around 9:00, and most of those who were going to see Lupe are are inside already. As I'm texting Donovan and Whitney who are inside already, trying my best to live vicariously through them, VJ decides we should stop by the party at the Adidas store for a couple of minutes, then proceed to loaf outside the concert... in the cold.

Pay attention! This is the part where the world turns upside down...

As we're loafing, I go across the street to get some french fries from Ishkabibbles. When I get back, I notice that VJ and the lady working security keep shooting glances at eachother. I had given up hope by that time so I didn't really care, but then they start talking to eachother like they're childhood friends. And then the unthinkable happened... She mouths to VJ "Is it just you?". He shakes his head and points to me, then she tells us to come in and let the brolic gentlemen pat us down.

Next thing I know, we're in the concert which, to my surprise, hadn't even started yet! The first thing I did was call Don and Whitney to see where they were, then VJ starts leading me through the crowd of sneakerheads and streetwear kids, all looking at us like we're out our monkey a** minds.
The story ends with me having the most unplanned day ever, attending my second free Lupe concert in two years (both of which I would've put up big bread for), and me confirming my theory that I have some of the best friends ever.

Shout out to VJ, Don, Travis, and the lovely Miss Whit.

one of my future baby's moms, miss nikki jean

(even though she spent most of her perfomance staring at Donovan)

The lady who helped me lose my vocie. And yes... Fresh2DefSheIs.

If you read this whole blog post, you're a trooper and I truly appreciate you. Now get out there and change the world.
